Richard "Dick" Michael Coffey, age 89, passed peacefully to be with his Lord and savior on September 8, 2024. Born in Decatur, Alabama, Dick also lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, before settling in Dayton Ohio. Dick was retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he worked as chief of manpower and organization. In 1991, Dick moved to Ellenton, Florida, where he resided the remainder of his life.
Dick was a veteran of the United States Army where he served one year at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and four years in Berlin, Germany, and two years in the reserves at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Beyond his military service and employment for the US government, Dick was a member of St. John's 13 Masonic Order in Dayton Ohio. Dick was active in Little League baseball where he coached many years at Patterson Park Little League. Dick was a graduate of Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio, and attended two years at the University of Dayton.
Dick was an avid fisherman and spent many days with family and friends fishing Lake Erie.
Dick is survived by his children; Hans (Elyse) Coffey; Bryan (Lisa) Coffey; Kent Coffey; Christopher (Shana) Coffey; Colleen Coffey, all of Dayton, Ohio, and son by marriage, Bruce (Jennifer) Graham of Winter Park, Florida, plus fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olie Edmond Coffey and Louise Tipton Coffey; his loving wife of 32 years Phyllis Jean Walters Coffey; son, Richard "Rick" Coffey Jr.; brother, James Coffey, sisters, Jane (Orville) Taber and June (Henry) Netherton.
A Visitation will be held 9 – 10 AM, Wednesday, September 18, 2024, followed by a service at 10 AM, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209. Dick will be buried 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery.
